Jackson State University

It doesn’t seem as if it has been a year since the opening of Gallery1, but it has. The art gallery that is located on the first floor of One University Place will celebrate its anniversary with a Sidewalk Soiree, Friday, August 31 from 6:00-8:00p.m.

The event will feature a retrospective of paintings by Jackson State University’s alumni and Vicksburg native, Tony Davenport, as well as musical entertainment by jazz artist Rhonda Richmond and saxophonist, Amos B.

“This really started off as an opening for Tony, but when we realized that his opening was only a day after our one year anniversary, it just kind of snowballed into this great event,” shared Kimberly Jacobs, Gallery1’s curator. “This year has been a true labor of love. What we started off as has evolved into what we truly are, which is a environment to nurture the appreciation of art.”

Attendees can also enjoy hor d’oeuvres prepared by Chef John Hardy of The Penguin Restaurant, as well as desserts and champagne compliments of EnVision Eye Care and Optical Boutique.

Davenport’s exhibit will be on display at Gallery1 through October 20.
