Known to many  as the Money Maven, Patrice Washington knows a thing or two about building wealth. She’s owned a highly successful, seven figure company. Lost everything and re-built it all over again. How did she do it? She re-defined what wealth meant to her.

“Wealth is a condition of well being. Wealth initially didn’t have anything to do with material possessions. That’s what we’ve made it. Often times I travel all over the country and I hear, “I’m working on a budget,” or “I’m working on my credit.” They’ve been working on it for years, but It’s not about that. There’s a whole other set of principles that we don’t talk about. There has to be something else to it or we all would be wealthy. You’ve already heard don’t spend more than you make. You’ve already heard that you should budget. You don’t need anyone else to tell you that. Those things are a piece, but they are not the whole story and I think often time we leave out the other steps.”

With only a few weeks left in 2017 now is as good of a time as ever to start planning for the future and building wealth. Washington shares her six pillars that helped her to change her mindset and reclaim her life.

Fitness

Getting fit isn’t just about going to the gym and working out, Washington says that’s only one piece of the puzzle.  “Many of us are praying and asking God expand our territories, but in order for you to run the race set out for you, your body has to be ready for it. It is your duty and responsibility to protect the vessel that helps execute the vision. What good is money if you’re unhealthy. The other part of fit is being mentally fit. Success is hard. If you do not have the mental capacity to deal with it, success will wear you out. Some of us are trying to step into a new future, but telling ourselves an old story. It’s about becoming your best self.”

Relationships

“On the journey to making more money or getting the wealth that we want, we get really caught up in ‘I’m hustlin. I’m running. I’m doing my thing. I got my head down. It’s all about me and getting to my goals.’  You have to create relationships that matter. It’s really hard to enroll other people in the vision when you are leaving them out. Don’t confuse physical presences with being present.

Space

Space is about setting up a life that supports you. Do you know how much time you waste looking for stuff that you already own. The reality is most of us can’t find stuff, not because our memory is bad, but because of clutter. Purses cluttered. Car cluttered. Office cluttered. Here’s the reality, clutter represents chaos in the mind. It is a physical representation. Think about your environment. How is it right now? We waste so much time because of clutter. The reality is, if we could organize in a way that supports us, then we are free to think about those things that are needed to move our mission forward. Is your space setup to support you? Is it organized? Does it make you feel good.

Faith

“I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would not be here if it weren’t for my faith. I received the Claire Huxtable award a few years ago. It was for being a mother and wife who handles business with style and grace. And I started my speech, I started with ‘you wouldn’t know by looking at me, but…’ because I don’t like for people to think that this is what it has always been. What I had to learn for myself was that my faith does not have to look like your faith. I had to find what worked with me. I had to create my alter and my prayer place. It’s impossible to get where you’re going if you don’t make time to get still and get in alignment with who created you.”

Work

“Work is about living out your life’s purpose. A lot of us are passionate about a lot of things. That doesn’t mean that’s what God gave us to create prosperity with. A lot of us are passionate about things that we aren’t willing to take the time to perfect. We aren’t where we want to be because we are working our gifts in the wrong industry or community. It’s not that you are doing the wrong thing. It’s that you are doing it for the wrong people. Even when the work is not easy, it’s purposeful.”

Money

“Money is a byproduct of you doing all the other work; relationships are intact; your body is healthy and ready; you are mentally free and your space is clear. This is the stuff I’m starting to tell people more, because this is the truth, getting in alignment with who you are. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. It’s about you assessing where you are in each of the pillars and looking at the practical steps that can be taken to move forward. By becoming a better you, you attracted the better things that you want and get to define wealth for yourself.”
