Savvy Lifestyle Magazine and Jb Entertainment Group is bringing Jackson, Mississippi its biggest Juneteenth celebration ever! Sunday, June 17^th at the Mississippi Museum of Art from 3p.m.— 8p.m., enjoy a live soul food cooking demonstration with local TV show “It’s About You” and chef Nate Coleman, music, great food and a cultural event like no other at the 2012 Juneteenth Arts & Music Festival. This event is FREE , open to the public and sponsored by WRBJ 97.7 FM, FOX 40, Greater Jackson Arts Council,  Mississippi Humanities Council, Young Professionals Alliance of Greater Jackson, Good As Gold Video Production, the Law Offices of John S. Williams, LLC and the CW.

“Juneteenth is celebrated in cities across this country, yet Jackson doesn’t have a flagship or staple event to commemorate this important period in our history,” shared Jay Bogan, one of the event organizers and CEO of Jb Entertainment Group. “Myself along with a few other young professionals came together to change that. We aren’t the type of individuals who just talk about what we would like to see happen here in Jackson, we try and provide a solution as well.”

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the end of African slavery in the United States. Juneteenth celebrations originated in Galveston, Texas in 1865 when Union troops arrived to enforce the covenants of the Emancipation Proclamation that declared all slaves were to be freed in revolting states. Upon notice of their freedom, albeit two and half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, the former slaves held community festivals and discussions to support their effort to realize the liberties of their freedoms through voting, education, and community welfare.
