Five years ago Will Sterling turned a hobby into a thriving business. Armed simply with an exceptional eye for art, a Cannon camera and passion, Sterling Photography was born. It wasn’t long before he went from being Will Sterling, a local Jackson, Mississippi based photographer to celebrity photographer Will Sterling. Sterling, as he is affectionately known, creates work of art with his camera.
Gifted with the ability to capture some of life’s greatest moments with just the flick of a button, Sterling is quickly becoming one of the country’s most sought after photographers. He has photographed everyone from legends such as Cassandra Wilson, Music Soul Child, and Kim Burrell to Hollywood actress Nicole Ari Parker and R&B sensation Miguel to blushing brides, and glowing moms-to-be to top models straight off the runways of New York, Milan and Paris.

“Photography captures the essences of life that the mind sometimes can forget,” says the one time Blue Cross Blue Shield employee. “That’s why it’s very important to me that whether I’m photographing a celebrity, bridal party or a high school senior the finished product turns moments into long lasting memories.”

While working at Blue Cross, Sterling purchased a small digital camera from a cousin. He started shooting family reunions as a side gig. “I thought I was ready for the big time,” he shared in a recent interview, “so I booked a wedding. That’s when I realized I did not know how to take a photograph.” Many of the pictures were marred by an orange or red tint. “I was shooting everything with the camera set on automatic, and in certain lighting you simply can’t get the picture you need doing that,” he recalls.

Actress Nicole Ari Parker is one of the many celebrities photographed by Will Sterling.

Dedicated to his passion, Sterling purchased a better camera, took crash courses in lighting and choosing talent from photographers Derek Ashley and Mic Fontaine and the rest is photographic history…he was on his way.

It is his striking diversity and attention to detail within the various photography genres that has created Sterling’s vast panorama of clients. Fully invested in each of his clients, he gives careful thought and consideration to each frame and works each concept from pre-production to the retouching of the final image; making sure to capture every emotion, personality and genuine moment.

Sterling’s passion for photographer has opened many doors for him. His art form has been viewed by millions on websites Young, Black and Fabulous, Necole Bitchie and He is also the Director of Photography for Denim Magazine, an online fashion publication.

Whether it be high fashion, celebrity portraiture, or surrealistic fine art, Sterling consistently delivers distinctive and eye-catching photography. There is no doubt that when people talk about breathtaking, story telling photography, Will Sterling’s name will be mentioned.
